About Mambo
Mambo is what salsa was before it was salsa. Born in the 1940s big-band era and shaped by Pérez Prado and Tito Puente, it is danced "on 2" — meaning the break step lands on the second beat instead of the first. It is faster than salsa, more theatrical in its breaks, and the dance ballroom competitors choose when they want to show off rhythm and musicality.
High-energy Cuban roots — the precursor to modern salsa.
